SABI AGRI is committed to the preservation of biodiversity

Biodiversity includes all living species (animals, plants, fungi and micro-organisms) and the ecosystems in which they live.

“Ecosystems provide humanity with goods and services necessary for their well-being and development (climate regulation, recycling of organic matter, pollination). For example, the pollination of plants by insects allows the reproduction of many species of cultivated plants and thus food production. “ – Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 2005. Ecosystems and Human Well-being: Synthesis.

SABI AGRI is committed to the protection of biodiversity by integrating it from the design phase of its products to their use through the implementation of agro-ecological practices.

The role of SABI AGRI in preserving soil biodiversity
Product design

SABI AGRI is the first agricultural equipment manufacturer to completely redefine the face of agricultural machinery. The respect of biodiversity is integrated as an integral part of the specifications. The unique mechatronic architecture of its machines allows them to be up to 4 times lighter than conventional tractors. This characteristic reduces soil compaction and promotes biodiversity as well as the associated biological regulations responsible for its fertility.

The use of the innovation

SABI AGRI products offer the Right Agronomic Power. They perform all agricultural tasks and are compatible with standard agricultural tools.

In order to maximize product performance, shallow tillage is recommended. Indeed, the impact of the techniques and tools used for tillage on biodiversity is partly dependent on the depth of tillage. Thus, with shallow tillage, the number of soil microorganisms and earthworms is greater, which improves crop nutrition through their activities.

The concrete example of mechanical weeding with ALPO, the electric straddle tractor from SABI AGRI

The use of herbicides has direct effects on biodiversity. For example, studies show a decline of up to 75% of pollinators and 33% of birds in agroecosystems.

Thus, mechanical weeding is an alternative to preserve agroecosystems. However, this practice is limited due to the use of heavy thermal tractors. Indeed, this requires an increase in the number of passes in the crop. In viticulture, we observe up to 6 interventions instead of 2! This increases the risk of soil compaction as well as the consumption of fossil fuels. Thus, in addition to the increase in operational costs, the overall carbon footprint of the vineyard increases by 5%.

The use of the ALPO Electric straddle tractor allows the implementation of mechanical weeding by overcoming
these limitations and making it viable
. It offers a strong environmental added value:

  • Its lightweight allows to avoid soil compaction of repeated passages;
  • Its energy saving feature limits energy consumption and so its cost;
  • Its electric motorization means that it does not emit any CO2.

SABI AGRI products make it possible to implement mechanical weeding in an ecological and profitable way to preserve biodiversity.
